The Magic of Cael Sanderson

A trio of words for you.

Five is enough.

If the proverbial writing on the wall can be trusted, or, if history itself means anything at all, then as Gable as my witness, it would appear self-evident that the Lions of Penn State will not only win the 2023 NCAA Tournament, but do it - mind you - with half their team tied behind their back.

From a Coaching perspective, barring any injuries or course, just the knowing you are about to get the job done with only half a team, that has to be what is often called a beautiful thing, if not something to behold.

This is a year it seems, short of miracle of water walking proportions, that PSU will win the title without needing to perform even a single, magic trick - which as we all know, is the specialty of the house.

Unless Ferrari and the Bugatti wrestling brothers show up at Iowa or Ohio State, it appears that the five unknown soldiers can take their foot off the gas a bit, take a year off perhaps.

But, as you know, they of course, aren't going to take this year off - and of course if they can, they are definitely going to lay the petal to the metal and perform some outstanding wrestling magic.

Because that's what wrestlers do at Penn State University.

They turn magical.

What shall we call him?

The original Magician?

Perhaps thee Magician…

Or how about the ultimate Magician?

I say that because he figured out the ultimate human riddle.

Moreover, Coach Cael has mastered the only trick that truly matters because everything else comes easy, and as they say, along for the ride.

What is this magic, magic-trick; to end all magic tricks?

How to create little magicians.

Yup

Ten Cael’s.

Imagine that.

I bet he has.

Matter of fact, I might offer that that… is exactly the plan, Stan.

You can perhaps imagine the God like feeling imagined feeling inspires.

Giving all of his own best to his athletes, and, in a sense, creating little images of himself.

And guess what?

Cael is a well cut mold. Of fine design and material. An almost perfect template. A cut from above.

And the images rendered are turning out quite well.

You know what else?

He’s already half way there.

Competitors should think about setting their alarms an hour earlier this season.

4 AM might do it.

Took him 11 years to cover half the ground.

Half of the Champs are from his team.

I invite you to truly breath that in.

Most never get one champ.

Some teams get one every 7 years and they throw a ticker tape parade.

Very few teams ever get two in the same year.

Hardly anyone gets three.

Four is considered absolutely nuts.

Five is almost contumelious Do you believe he can get 10?

10 in the finals, 10 Champs, perhaps?

If so, in what year might that event occur?

Enter stage left Nolf, Nichol, Vincenzo, Zain, Lee, Cassar, Ruth, Wright, Hall, and the entire fantabulous five of today, Roman B. YOUng, Star-O, A-B, Mr. Dean, and Big K. …all these guys, and in my opinion, without a doubt, all developed into masterful magicians themselves.

Moreover, Coach Cael transformed David Taylor into such a magician that an entire wrestling country refers to him as “The Magic Man.”

Coincidence, I think not.
